THE FACTS
Of the total people living in poverty, 26% are under the age of 18.
10.8% are 65 or older.

Manchester Year 2000 Census

One in 15 people in New Hampshire lives below the federal poverty threshold and 31 percent of them are children under the age of 18. Of those living in poverty, many are hungry or "food insecure" - living with the uncertainty of obtaining adequate food. Increasingly, soup kitchens and food pantries are called on to meet their food and nutritional needs.

In 2006, 6,435 individuals stayed in state supported homeless shelters.

In 2007, 718 homeless individuals stayed at New Horizons and Angie's Shelter for Women.

In 2007, the New Horizons Food Pantry distributed 16,347 bags of food to impoverished families and individuals.

In 2007, the New Horizons Soup Kitchen served 68,199 meals.






On any given day in New Hampshire, there are 2,248 people who are homeless.
